Royal Interest: A French gold and diamond Royal presentation portrait snuffbox, the box by Alexandre Raoul Morel (fl.1833-1850) marked with his standard mark for gold, Paris 1819-1838, centred by an oval portrait miniature on ivory by Francois Meuret (1800-1887) after Winterhalter depicting Louis Philippe I, King of France, to a surround of sixteen old mine cut diamonds, the box with scrolling foliate decoration and rosettes to the corners, engine turned decoration to the underside, 9.5cm x 7cm approximately 274g

Provenance:

Given by King Leopold I of Belgium to the 3rd Earl of Liverpool when he was Lord Steward and went with Queen Victoria to Belgium, probably in 1843.

All diamonds are bright white, clarity ranging from approximately VS2-SI2, most of the stones flouresce under uv light, very good condition, only very minor wear commensurate with age, small pin missing near thumb piece, clear marks, closes easily but doesn't snap shut


Lot contains an element of pre-1947 ivory or other organic material which may be subject to export restrictions
