Bible [English] The Holy Bible, Containing the Old Testament and the New: Newly Translated out of the Original Tongues: and with the former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised. By His Majesty's Special Command. Appointed to be Read in Churches, Oxford: John Baskett, 1717/1716, large folio, 2 volumes, decorative tooled red morocco, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers (restored), additional engraved general title by Du-Bose representing Moses writing the first words of Genesis, letterpress title and calendar printed in red and black, general title with engraved illustration by G. Van der Gucht depicting a view of Oxford, with numerous engraved head & tail-pieces and initials after Thornhill, Cheron, Laguere and others, generally illustrating incidents from the Bible, Apocrypha present, borders ruled in red throughout, title page of New Testament pasted onto inserted page depicting a Catherdral Interior with Christ, Moses and a vignette of the last supper, storiated initials throughout

Ombersley Court, Worcestershire. Endpaper annotated 'Lady Raymond her book, 1750. Likely referring to Lady Robert Bertie, née The Hon. Mary Blundell (1719-98) Lady Robert Raymond.

Footnote:

[Herbert 942; Darlow & Moule 735]. Printed in large type. This edition became known as the Vinegar Bible from the misprint in the headline above Luke XX. The book contained many misprints and earned the nickname A Basket-full of Errors.
