Footnote:

Zoltan Lewinter-Frankl (1894-1961) was a refugee from Vienna who arrived with his wife Annie in Belfast in 1939, where they established Anny Lewinter Ltd , a major employer in Newtownards which produced high-quality knitwear. Zoltan quickly became a key supporter, friend and buyer of work by local Irish artists such as Gerard Dillon, Daniel O’Neill, Colin Middleton, Markey Robinson and Jack Yeats, and their work was proudly displayed throughout the factory.

Included in Zoltan’s group of ‘intimates’ in Belfast were the painters Stanley Spencer and particularly Markey Robinson, whom Frankl described as ‘the most amazing personality I have met for some time’.

Framed and glazed. Good overall condition. Picture surface is stable, with some small areas of loss and abrasion.
