Nicola Brain (British 1962-1986) The group of works below are by Nicola Brain who became a Rome Scholar in Painting between 1985-1986, winning the Abbey Major Award. Tragically Nicola was found to have taken her own life within a month of her arrival in the British School at Rome. Nicola was born in Cheltenham and studied at GLOSCAT for her Art Foundation course. She went on to study for her undergraduate degree at Coventry where she was awarded a 1st class Honours Degree in Fine Art, with a commendation on her History of Art thesis on Willem de Kooning. A bursary from the Henry Moore Foundation enabled Nicola to complete her Masters of Arts Degree at Chelsea School of Art. Exhibitions of her work have included The Whitworth Gallery in Manchester for Northern Young Contemporaries and The Herbert Gallery, Coventry.
