Plinius Secundus (Gaius) The Historie of the World

Plinius Secundus (Gaius), The Historie of the World: commonly called, the Naturall Historie of C. Plinius Secundus translated into English by Philemon Holland, London: Printed by Adam Islip, and are to be sold by Iohn Grismond, in Ivy-lane at the signe of the Gun, 1635-1634, folio, full calf with six raised bands and morocco and gilt lettered title label, two volumes bound in one, both titles with first word xylographic and with large woodcut printer's devices, woodcut head- and endpieces, decorative initials, some storiated, includes the 'advertisement' to the reader at the end of the second volume, pastedown inscribed: Edwyn Sandys, February the 13th 1737/8 and to first endpaper 'Given to me by the Countess of Northampton 1737/38, first title inscribed ' on Mich: xvi ... 1640 ... Charles, Aridon'

Chorley’s Auctioneers is to offer The Ombersley Court Library collected by the English aristocratic family of Sandys across five centuries.

Proceeds of the sale will will be donated to the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust (Charity 1127871).

Hartlebury Castle is a historic Worcestershire estate first given to Bishop Aelhun in 855AD. Home of the Bishops of Worcester until 2007. it has a longstanding connection with the Sandys family throughout its history.
