Anton Hirschig (1867-1939)/Boy with Goat/signed with monogram and inscribed Brasschaat 1909)/oil on canvas, 54.75cm x 73cm/Note; Anton Hirschig, known to friends as Tony or Tom, lodged for a time at the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise, in a room next door to that of Vincent van Gogh. When Van Gogh returned from the fields one evening with a gunshot wound, Hirschig assisted in notifying the physician and getting word to Vincent's brother Theo, who arrived in time to be with him as he passed away. Hirschig left Auvers shortly after the funeral.
