One of the earliest surviving sedan chairs in the UK, this example was probably imported to the UK in the 19th Century, purchased by Robert Holland-Martin (1872-1944) from Robinson & Fisher of South Kensington in 1937 and displayed for many years at the Overbury Museum, in the Cotswolds
Overall in fair to good condition with wear and scuffs,scratches commensurate with age and use. two glass panels replaced with plate glass. One glass panel handmade glass. Two corner mouldings missing to cornice. Poles later. leather cracked and pierced in places as pictured. Fading and wear to fabric lined interior. no woodworm visible. later seat panel.
