A very fine Japanese Shodana Tansu, Meiji Period 1868-1912, the top with central cupboard applied ivory and stained ivory, an interior with table utensils, basket of flowers, a vase of flowers, a kettle stand, dog of Fo etc within a pierced and carved surround, the doors to the sides applied ivory and mother-of-pearl chrysanthemums, the central recess with back panel depicting a tree with actors beneath, one kneeling with a basket of fruit before two others with a tiger, a bowed cupboard to the side with children playing, further cupboards and drawers beneath finely applied carved ivory figures in relief, lacquered drawers to the base, 140cm (55") wide
