John Peel interest: A cased riding crop and spurs, by repute formerly owned by the legendary English huntsman John Peel (1776-1854), the Malacca crop with leather-covered shaft, bone handle and silver collar, the spurs with leather straps, a cutting from an auction catalogue within the glass-fronted case read 'Lot 393, "Peel (John) His Hunting Crop, made of malacca, the top half covered with leather, with bone right-angled handle, the grip decorated with a diminishing cruciform motive, beneath the handle a silver wreath ring, at the bottom the usual leather loop (length 30 ins.); Also John Peel's Spurs (one leather strap broken in two)', the glazed case 92cm wide, 10cm deep, 24cm high

By descent through the Peel family to George Peel who sold these items in around 1922 to Lady Baxter (1867-1937) who lived at Keswick

Left by Lady Baxter to her cousin Lt-Col W J Willcox, on whose death ownership passed to his widow Mrs C V C Willcox

Offered for sale by Mrs Willcox at Christies, London, March 1952 where unsold

Offered at auction in Skipton, autumn 1952 where purchased by Mr Frank Fattorini

Acquired by dealers Summers Davis & Son Ltd, Antiques, Calleva House, Wallingford who presumably cased the items and included a cutting from the Christie's sale catalogue

From circa 1981 this case hung in the Old John Peel Inn in Windermere
