Chinese Export School (19th Century) Botanical Studies an album of 25 botanical studies in watercolour and bodycolour heightened with gum arabic on thin Japan paper, the sheets predominantly 39.5cm x 32cm, each mounted to margins only on cream wove paper, atlas folio (44cm x 35cm), [circa 1830-40], contemporary morocco-backed blind-decorated red cloth, titled in gilt to upper cover 'Album Chinesischer Blumen'

A collection of detailed watercolour studies of Chinese botanical specimens by Chinese artists, likely to have been produced in the workshops of the trading port of Canton and destined for the export market, in this case presumably German-speaking Prussia, given the German title. The present works, large in format and in good condition, include Glechoma Hederacea, Oriental Quince, White Camellia, Grevillea Petrophiloides, Sonchus Oleraceus, Asclepias Curassavica, Bauhinea Purpurea, Solidago Virgaurea, Caesalpina Pulcherrima, Combretum Indicum, Gardenia Radicans, Magnolia Liliflora, Impatiens Balsamina, Gossipium Barbadense, Lagerstroemia Indica, Lonicera, Jasminum Fruticans.
