[Z] [Mukerji (H.C.J. editor) The Indian Cricketers' Tour of 1911

[Mukerji (H.C.J.) editor] The Indian Cricketers' Tour of 1911. by 'Extra Cover' Bombay: D.B. Taraporevala, Sons & Co., 1911, 8vo, original wrappers, fold-out frontispiece and ten pages of photographs, with the bookplate for A.E. Winder [Padwick 5595, Baloch 0007]

Footnote:

The Parsis had toured England twice in the 1880s but this was the first team from India to include players from all the major non-European populations. Tanji was unable to join the party and they won only two matches.

Tony Winder was a Yorkshire businessman and fanatical collector of cricket books and cricketana. During the 1970s Winder amassed one of the finest cricket collections, including books, prints, pictures, ceramics, autograph letters, scrapbooks, postcards and photographs. He bought throughout the decade from major auction houses and book dealers and was also fortunate that at this time several major collections came onto the market which he bought privately. This culminated in the purchase in 1979 of the superb cricket collection belonging to the legendary cricket writer and broadcaster John Arlott.

In 1985, Winder's business empire collapsed. He was declared bankrupt and the A E Winder cricket collection was sold by auction at Phillips in November 1985. Tony Winder died six years later, aged only 47. The story of Winder can be read in 'With the Bookplate of A. E. Winder' by David Allen (J W McKenzie, 2008)

Sold for £1,200
