A Chinese mid 18th Century chamber pot and cover, Qianlong, the cover with knop handle painted with gilt flowers bordered by wavy lines and a green and gilt rim, the pot with conforming decoration, the moulded loop handle terminated with moulded leaves, 27cm wide/Provenance: Ethel Bedford Fenwick nee Manson (1857-1947). In 1881, aged twenty-four, she became the matron of St. Bartholomew's Hospital. She worked tirelessly for the registration of the nursing profession and was determined that nurses should be registered after three years of training to a National Curriculum; eventually after years of lobbying at the highest level she became the General Nursing Council's first Registered Nurse. By family tradition this chamber pot is said to have belonged to Marie Antoinette
