Thomas Simpson (1710-1761) was a self-trained English mathematician. Simpson’s ability in mathematics earned him a membership in The Royal Society and eventually, in 1743, a professorship at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich.

Board detached and chipped, spine dry, worn and flaking, pages toned, front pastedown with various inscriptions title with repaired tear left upper corner, ink and pencil marks on title and a little soiled. Some pages detached, ink smudges, scattered marginal notes, last two leaves loose and chipped. Endpapers and first and last few pages browned and chipped, not collated. A few pages with page numbers redrawn in ink. Title, i-iv, 5-216
