Footnote:Samuel Sandys, MP for Worcester from 1718-43, married in 1725 Letitia Tipping, co-heir with her sister to the baronetcy of Tipping of Wheatfield. In 1743 he was created Baron Sandys of Ombersley and in 1756-57 was Speaker of the House of Lords. The painting was thus made between his marriage in 1725 and his elevation to the peerage in 1743, when the arms would have changed.
