Mind your Manors | Fine Art & Antiques Auction 14 & 15 February 2023

February sees the contents of several country houses go under the hammer at Chorley’s. A traditional array of silver, porcelain, clocks and furniture will have appeal to the collector and the interior designer alike. The furniture section has two fine campaign chests, this form is ever popular and should see a good bidding battle. Equally popular is furniture by Howard & Sons, a sofa that has been languishing in a Welsh shed for years may well give a surprise on the day. A collection of paintings from a house near Cheltenham covers the 17th-19th century with a variety of subject matters to appeal to a wide range of buyers. A collection of books from a deceased estate of a retired land agent includes a particularly interesting selection of works relating to agriculture, farms and land management.
The auction includes the contents of Lily Farm, Buckinghamshire. Much of the furniture and works of art being offered for sale were collected by Major Gordon Cochrane Home (1878-1969), the artist, illustrator, writer and historian.
