Spetchley treasures sell for £0.5 million at Chorley's

With a packed saleroom and 1500 bidders online, the auction lasted over 9 hours as collectors from around the world jostled for items from the cellars and attics of the Berkeley family.

Proper country house clear-outs are a rare thing these days and are eagerly anticipated by both private and trade buyers.  Spetchley Park is one of the greatest Regency houses and, as home to the Berkeley family for over 400 years, it has been the repository of generations worth of collecting.  Offered alongside a selection of other properties, including paintings from Little Sodbury Manor, the sale attracted worldwide interest.
